Subscribers have communicated a desire for more comprehensive articles focusing on emerging trends within the startup ecosystem and the broader technology landscape globally.
Available Positions
To meet this growing demand, we are currently seeking to fill three crucial positions. These include a project manager, a desk editor, and a daily reporter.
- Project Manager: Responsible for overseeing content production and ensuring timely delivery.
- Desk Editor: Focused on refining and preparing articles for publication.
- Daily Reporter: Dedicated to covering the latest news and developments in the tech industry.

Daily Reporter
A dedicated individual with a passion for data-driven investigation and reporting is sought to analyze current trends within the new startup landscape. This role involves close collaboration with the Extra Crunch team to explore developing themes and concepts.
The primary function will be to gather pertinent data, consult with industry experts, and synthesize findings into a collaborative, multi-author newsletter.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough, data-focused research and reporting to support the daily newsletter.
- Fulfill writing assignments specifically for the daily newsletter publication.
- Contribute articles to Extra Crunch on an occasional basis, as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in technology and business journalism, or within research-intensive roles relating to startups, is required.
- A proactive and self-motivated approach to understanding complex systems and real-world dynamics is essential.

Desk Editor
A skilled editor is needed to refine and enhance the quality of our articles. Precise editing is crucial for ensuring our audience fully grasps the concepts presented. This position involves close collaboration with the Extra Crunch editorial team to deliver exceptional content from diverse contributors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Thorough line editing of article drafts, focusing on clarity, relevance, and factual correctness.
- Content management within WordPress, encompassing tagging and updates to landing pages as instructed.
- Maintenance and updates to our editorial calendar system.
- Effective communication with Extra Crunch editors, TechCrunch personnel, and external guest writers throughout the production workflow.
Essential Qualifications:
- Proficiency in AP style guidelines.
- A foundational understanding of the technology startup landscape as of 2021.
- Familiarity with the U.S. and international business contexts prevailing in 2021.
- A minimum of 5 years of editing experience within a journalistic setting is highly desirable.
Candidates under consideration will be required to undertake an editing assessment as part of the recruitment procedure.

Project Manager Opportunity
Extra Crunch utilizes several internal databases to facilitate the creation of informative articles. Currently, a primary resource is The TechCrunch List, which catalogs hundreds of investors spanning 22 technology sectors globally. This list is compiled from thousands of founder recommendations identifying the initial investors in their companies. Further databases are under development.
We are seeking an individual to oversee this entire system, working closely with Extra Crunch editors as it evolves and expands.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including generating customized data views for the TechCrunch editorial team to support their reporting.
This involves leveraging our existing databases and associated tools.
Responsibilities also include maintaining and evaluating our databases focused on startups, incorporating information from editorial staff, TechCrunch events, newsletters, and external sources.
- Creating internal data presentations for the editorial staff to use in article creation, utilizing our databases and tools.
- Maintaining and analyzing startup-focused databases, drawing on information from editorial teams, TechCrunch events, newsletters, and other sources.
- Establishing communication with founders, investors, and other stakeholders within the startup ecosystems we cover.
- Identifying and implementing innovative methods for utilizing our current databases.
- Collaborating with the Extra Crunch team to develop and execute new initiatives.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in working with data management tools such as Airtable, Google Sheets, and Excel.
A strong dedication to well-organized data structures and efficient processes is crucial.
Experience in managing data-driven projects, from initial concept to results analysis, is also required.
