Ex-Apple Engineer Apology & Vision Pro Leak Dismissal

Former Apple Engineer Apologizes After Leak Lawsuit Dismissal
An ex-iOS engineer has publicly apologized following the dismissal of a lawsuit brought against him by Apple. The legal action centered around allegations of disclosing confidential company data.
Details of the Lawsuit
The suit, initially filed in the previous year, claimed that Andrew Aude communicated with reporters from The Wall Street Journal and The Information. These communications reportedly involved the transmission of thousands of messages.
The disclosed information allegedly encompassed details regarding over six distinct Apple policies and products. Specifically mentioned were insights into the development of Apple’s Journal app and the Vision Pro headset.
Aude’s Statement and Apology
In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), Aude reflected on his time at Apple. “I spent nearly eight years as a software engineer at Apple,” he stated.
He acknowledged being entrusted with access to sensitive, unreleased product and feature information during his employment. However, he admitted to a critical error in judgment.
“Instead of maintaining the confidentiality of this information, I erred by sharing it with journalists covering the company,” Aude explained. “At the time, I failed to grasp the significant and costly consequences of my actions.”
Regret and Acknowledgement of Harm
Aude expressed deep regret for his actions, stating, “Leaking was not worth it.”
He extended a sincere apology to his former coworkers. He recognized their dedication to both developing Apple projects and safeguarding their secrecy.
“They deserved better,” Aude concluded, acknowledging the impact of his actions on those who worked diligently to protect confidential information.
