everdrop Secures $21.8M Series A Funding - Sustainable Cleaning

The Rise of Everdrop: Sustainable Cleaning Solutions

The concept is remarkably straightforward. Everdrop, a Munich-based company, offers tablets composed of common household ingredients. These tablets dissolve in water, creating effective cleaning sprays for kitchens, bathrooms, and glass surfaces.

A key advantage is the elimination of water transportation costs, as the water is sourced directly from the user’s tap. This innovative approach has resonated strongly with both consumers and investors.

Securing Series A Funding

Everdrop has successfully secured €18 million ($21.8 million) in a Series A funding round. This investment was spearheaded by Felix Capital, with additional participation from HV Capital and Vorwerk Ventures.

The company intends to utilize these funds to expand its product line, focusing on a broader range of sustainable household products. Geographic expansion is also planned, initially across Europe and eventually into the U.S. market.

Addressing Plastic Waste

Launched in December 2019, Everdrop’s cleaning tablets directly tackle the issue of single-use plastic bottles. This focus on environmental responsibility has attracted a dedicated customer base.

Notably, the company has cultivated a substantial social media presence, boasting 110,000 followers on Instagram – an unusual achievement for a consumer goods startup.

Everdrop estimates that its tablets have already prevented the circulation of over 2.5 million single-use plastic bottles.

Unique Technological Advantages

According to co-founder David Löwe, replicating Everdrop’s business model might prove challenging beyond simply copying the tablet format.

He highlights the complexity of their water hardness calculator and the personalized laundry detergent formulation as key differentiators. Currently, no other company offers this level of customization.

Competitive Landscape

Everdrop operates within a growing market alongside competitors such as Grove Collaborative, Blueland, and The Honest Company.

Löwe expressed a desire for increased competition, believing that the success of Everdrop could inspire larger corporations to adopt more sustainable practices.

Expanding the Product Portfolio

Beyond the original cleaning tablets, Everdrop now offers a range of microplastic-free laundry detergents. These detergents are specifically formulated to address varying water hardness levels.

By tailoring the detergent to local water conditions, Everdrop can reduce the amount of unnecessary surfactants used by up to 50%. Laundry detergents are a significant source of chemical pollution in households.

The company estimates its approach prevents approximately 250 tons of unnecessary surfactants from entering the environment annually.

Innovative Packaging Solutions

Everdrop’s latest innovation is a “naked” dishwasher tablet, eliminating the plastic wrapping commonly used for these products.

Investor Confidence

David Fischer, an investor at HV Capital, commented on Everdrop’s impressive growth trajectory, comparing it to that of successful direct-to-consumer brands like Hims and DollarShaveClub.

He emphasized the remarkable performance of a genuinely sustainable brand in its early stages.
