1Password Link Sharing: Securely Share Passwords

Secure Password Sharing with 1Password's Psst!
The practice of sharing passwords is widespread, both in professional and personal settings. However, maintaining security during this process can present significant challenges. 1Password introduces a new solution designed to facilitate secure credential sharing, even with individuals who do not utilize the 1Password platform.
Addressing a Common Need
This new functionality, named Psst! – an abbreviation for Password Secure Sharing Tool – has been developed in response to substantial user demand. It directly tackles a prevalent security vulnerability identified through company research.
Prevalence of Insecure Sharing Practices
1Password’s research indicates a significant tendency for employees to reuse corporate login details. A concerning 36 percent of these individuals confessed to sharing these credentials via insecure methods. These methods include email, chat applications, spreadsheets, documents, and text messages.
Further studies revealed that families commonly share passwords, often relying on equally insecure techniques like handwritten notes and messaging apps.
How Psst! Enhances Security
Psst! enables the sharing of credentials with anyone through the creation of a unique, time-limited access link. Recipients do not require a 1Password account to access the shared information.
Users can define the link's validity period, ranging from one hour to a maximum of 30 days, after which access automatically terminates. Sharing permissions can be configured to allow access to anyone with the link or restricted to specific, verified individuals.
For restricted access, recipients are required to verify their email addresses before gaining access to the shared credentials, adding an extra layer of security.
Company Growth and New Features
The launch of Psst! coincides with 1Password’s announcement of surpassing 100,000 business clients. The company is also expanding its workforce, currently employing 500 individuals.
Jeff Shiner, CEO of 1Password, stated the following regarding the new feature and company progress:
