Zoom Adds End-to-End Encryption to Free Calls - Daily Crunch

Zoom introduces a highly anticipated feature, albeit with certain limitations, TikTok establishes a partnership with Shopify, and Jack Dorsey prepares to present his case at tomorrow’s Senate hearing. This is your Daily Crunch for October 27, 2020.
Key development: Zoom implements end-to-end encryption for all users
Zoom faced criticism earlier this year regarding its initial plan to reserve end-to-end encryption exclusively for paying subscribers. The company now announces that free users will also gain access to this option, beginning with Zoom version 5.4.0 on both desktop and mobile platforms.
However, several conditions apply. Utilizing end-to-end encryption within a free meeting will disable functionalities such as cloud recording, live transcription, and meeting reactions. Furthermore, joining the call via telephone will not be possible.
Additionally, users will be required to submit a phone number and billing details. The Zoom application itself must be used, as joining through a web browser will not be supported.
