bumble balances gender representation of c-suite with two new hires

Dating and networking application Bumble, known for its focus on empowering women, has announced the appointment of two new executives to its leadership team. Anu Subramanian will serve as Bumble’s chief financial officer, transitioning from her role at Univision, while Selby Drummond joins as chief brand officer, coming from Snap.

Prior to these appointments, Bumble’s C-suite consisted of Whitney Wolfe Herd as CEO, Sarah Jones Simmer as Chief Strategy Officer, Mariko O’Shea as General Counsel, Caroline Roache as Chief of Staff, Tariq Shaukat as President, Dominic Gallello as CMO, Miles Norris as Chief Product Officer, Ronen Benchetrit as CTO, Robbie McKay as CCO and Tran Taylor as Chief People Officer.

Subramanian previously held the position of senior vice president and chief financial officer at Univision Digital, where she was instrumental in guiding the financial direction of the company’s digital properties and direct-to-consumer initiatives. Before Univision, she served as the chief financial officer of VICE Media’s global digital business and also held several positions at Scripps Networks, including CFO of digital operations.

Drummond most recently served as Snapchat’s inaugural global head of Fashion and Beauty Partnerships. During her time at Snap, she spearheaded the strategy and launch of new fashion and shopping features, along with content development for Snapchat, Bitmoji, and Spectacles. Before joining Snap, Drummond spent eight years at American Vogue, ultimately becoming Accessories and Special Projects director, where she managed brand collaborations with notable names like Off-White, Air Jordan, Kith, and Proenza Schouler, contributing to the magazine, website, and events such as the Met Gala.

These appointments follow Bumble’s recent recruitment of Tariq Shaukat as its first president and Ronen Benchetrit as chief technology officer.

Bumble states that Subramanian and Drummond will collaborate with existing leadership to facilitate the app’s expansion into new international markets and bolster growth within Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

This news arrives after a significant year for the dating and networking platform. Late last year, Bumble gained full control of its operations from Badoo, resulting in a valuation of $3 billion for the now-profitable app. This transaction also empowered Bumble CEO Wolfe Herd to oversee Bumble and other dating applications previously supported by Badoo, including Badoo, Lumen, and Chappy.

Reports indicate that Bumble surpassed 100 million users this summer and is preparing for a potential initial public offering (IPO) in 2021, with an estimated valuation exceeding $6 billion.

“The recruitment of Anu and Selby demonstrates our dedication, alongside Blackstone, to building a strong team of exceptional individuals who embody our core values and mission,” stated Wolfe Herd. “Their expertise will significantly benefit our business, and their addition has achieved equal gender representation within our executive leadership – a milestone that is deeply meaningful to me,” she continued.
